Building Block #4

Major assignment #3 was a great opportunity to use many of the concepts I have learned this quarter in my work.  I was able to apply my understanding especially of genre and audience to create three completely new works.  Each work that I completed I did with my intended audience in mind.  I used appropriate language and tried to include only appropriate information for my intended audience.

I chose the genre depending on what audience I wanted to speak to.  I had to consider how the way the information was presented will affect the way it is received by the reader.  Because I understand this I was able to create what I consider three successful works that reach the reader because both the content and context was appropriate.

There are three different audiences that I will be intending to reach with the genres I have chosen.  For major assignment #2 the intended audience was hospital administrators and managers with the purpose to educate them on the effects of floating.  To go along with the research paper, I have decided to create a multimedia presentation with the target audience the same.  The presentation will include the same basic information just in a format that is quicker and easier to explain. 

The second part of my major assignment #3 will be my infographic.  The intended audience for my infographic will be fellow nurses.  I believe this will be a successful genre for this target audience because it will make the information easily accessible and a quick read unlike the research paper.  The final audience that I will attempt to reach is the general public.  It is my understanding that many who are not familiar with the way hospitals run, may not even know about floating.  I have decided to create an internet article that explains what floating is and how it may affect nurses and patients. 

Building Block #1

For my major assignment 3 I will be reformatting the information in major assignment number 2 for three additional genres.  The first genre that will be utilized is an infographic, this will be a helpful tool used to share information quickly and easily with others.  I am also considering creating a PowerPoint presentation arguing the ineffectiveness of floating registered nurses on a regular basis. This would be a useful genre and platform to use when communicating with hospital administrators. 

The final genre I am considering using is a website/ blog post to educate the public on the practice of floating.  I would say a majority of people who do not work in a hospital do not understand how it runs on a daily basis.  I think that a blog post could reach a number of people via many different platforms online.
